Since HAR2009 sold out, we’ve been fielding lots of requests for tickets.
Just tickets. Without a corresponding flight, spot in the lodge, or any other part of the HoaP experience.
Just to clarify: We have three tickets left for Hackers on a Plane. They naturally include admission to HAR. We are holding on to these tickets for those who want to take part in Hackers on a Plane, namely those who live in North America or are otherwise willing to travel to New York to participate.
The organizers of HAR have made every effort to support Hackers on a Plane. Quite simply, we would not be here were it not for their encouragement and support. They arranged a permanent structure for those of us traveling from overseas, made customized HoaP tickets and inspired us to build on the tradition we forged (and avoid the mistakes we made) at the Chaos Communications Camp in 2007.
To honor their efforts to bring North American hackers to Europe, we will hold these spaces out for those who want to travel to HAR from North America, with the other Hackers on the Plane on August 12.
If you can’t make it to HAR and have a ticket to sell, we will gladly connect you with one of the many potential buyers who have contacted us over the past few days. If you want to buy a ticket, check out the unused tickets page at wiki.har2009.org!
If you still want on the plane, and hot showers during HAR, it’s going to cost you.
While they’re still available, tickets on HoaP 2.0 to Hacking at Random (12 – 19 August) are on sale for $2,009. Tickets to HoaP Phi (4 – 19 August in Vienna) are still available for $2,718.28.
First person to correctly guesses why $2,718.28 was picked as a price for HoaP Phi gets the first HoaP 2.0 t-shirt. (Leave your answer in the comments with a valid e-mail address.)
As we’re almost sold out, today is the last day to get your ticket for HoaP 2.0 at $1,337.00:
Hackers on a Plane 2.0: HAR Edition (August 12 – August 19, 2009)
We have sold out all $1,618.03 tickets for HoaP 1.6. If there is space available, we’ll put up information on potential last minute tickets once we get the best deal from our travel partners.
European hackers throw a camp every two years. Sometimes the Germans do it. Sometimes the Dutch do it.
Back in 2007, a motley crew of 40 hackers from three continents attended Defcon 15, crashed the German camp, went back home and somehow launched the global hackerspaces movement.
Fast forward to December, 2008. The next wave of Dutch hacker camp organizers approached the Johnny Appleseed of Hackerspaces, and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. Get a bunch of North American hackers, put them on a plane, and we’ll give them the on-campsite lodge so they don’t have to worry about camping logistics.
Hot showers? Indoor plumbing? At a hacker camp? Huh?
So we crunched the numbers. Somehow, we made it work. For $1,337. The same price as last time. Only this time, we don’t have to worry about camping.
And now, it’s your chance to jump on board the next episode of hacker history: HoaP 2.0.
But wait! There’s more!
February 2009. Nine hackers descend upon Nick Farr’s apartment for ShmooCon 2009. One toilet fails to survive the onslaught. Much Twittering and neighborliness later, Plumbercon was born.
More numbers were crunched. Somehow, for $1,618.03, a figure very close to the golden ratio, Hackers on a Plane Phi (~1.6) became a reality.
Wait, seriously? Vienna, Germany, the Netherlands and a Hacker Camp for $1,618.03? Really?
Yes. We made it happen.
What will these 32 hackers do next time? Find out for yourself. Get on the plane!
HoaP 1.5 to ToorCamp is now closed. We’re looking forward to seeing you at ToorCamp!
In other news, it’s only a matter of time before for HoAP 1.6 and 2.0 sell out! Get your tickets NOW!
So, as you know, the project forked! In addition to the regular Hackers on a Plane 2.0 to Hacking at Random, we’re now heading off to ToorCamp and PlumberCon too!
